Special mix toroid with low permeability allows broadband coverage. Toroid is also coated with epoxy paint for extra durablity.
The design has excellent low frequency response which makes them very efficient (98-99%). This balun is perfect for 160, 80 and 40 meters where most dipoles are used but because of the short length windings, is excellent well past 10 meters. Input impedance remains essentially flat across this frequency spectrum. Competing designs can very as much as 40%, especially at lower frequencies.
2 separate bifilar windings of 18 gauge wire inserted in teflon tubes. 5000v breakdown voltage.
SO-239 connectors are silver plated with teflon insulation. All other hardware is #8 Stainless Steel.
BNC connectors are available for $2 additional per connector.
Because of the high efficiency, this balun will not heat up or saturate like the typical cheap current baluns using ferrite rods, beads or open air wound coax.
Balun is installed in a very compact 3X2X1.5 inch polycarbonate box with a bottom plate that fits flush with the case. Plate is an exceptional fit that can be easily weatherproofed if desired.
The balun is built with studs on top sides of the enclosure for connection to dipole wires or ladder line but can be reconfigured as needed.
