Heavy duty 5kw, 4:1 balun designed to be used with single wire verticals. Provides the perfect alternative to higher cost aluminum verticals. Utilizes stacked cores to provide efficient broadband performance and high power rating across all HF frequencies. New design intended for use with single wire vertical antennas and a wide range antenna tuner. Works best with either 33ft (40-10m) or 43ft (80-10m) of wire in a vertical configuration but just about any length over 24 feet will work (the larger the wire gauge the better) Does not work well as a sloper. Although many customers report very good performance using just a single ground rod, the best performance will come from using at least 4 ground or elevated radials. In a temporary or emergency situation, a single counterpoise can be used when cut to 1/4 wavelength of the lowest operating frequency. Note: Because of the smaller diameter of a wire vertical, performance will be slightly less than that of larger diameter aluminum or copper tube/pipe. Addtional Photos:   This balun is very flexible in design and can be built in a connector configuration to better match your application.  Please contact me with your requirements.   Design Features: Utilizes a design enhanced by Jerry Sevick, W2FMI, the authority on baluns. This is his 4:1 balun which he created to handle extreme high power.  By utilizing toroids with low permeability in a stacked configuration, the low frequencies are provided the necessary inductive reactance.   Windings are Thermaleze wire inserted in teflon tubes providing a breakdown voltage of 10,000 volts. Typical insertion loss is less than 0.2 dB Power handling of 5kw continuous 10kw intermittent upto 35MHz.   All Hardware is stainless steel.  Studs are 1/4"  SO-239 connectors are silver plated with teflon insulation.  N connectors and alternate mounting options are available in the Accessories section. Much more effective than types with ferrite beads or ferrite bars handles much higher power. Very high efficiency.
