This is one of several new UNUN's being added to the Balun Designs line of quality products. For those of you who own or are thinking of buying the ZeroFive, this unun will provide the same feedpoint transformation while providing a better match and higher RF output.
There is nothing magic about this design other than it's ability to more closely match an inherently unbalanced vertical to unbalanced coax feedline. Because of the unun design characteristics, the feedpoint impedance is not altered by common mode currents and no RF is shunted to the shield of the coax feedline. Result, more RF to the vertical and closer matching.
Unlike Baluns, Unun's (unbalanced to unbalanced) provide impedance transformation for antennas that are naturally unbalanced because of their construction configuration. This is a stacked core configuration and designed for high power usuage.
*** Important Notice ***
This unun provides improved performance on 80-10 meters but is difficult to tune on 160 meters with the 43ft vertical. For all band coverage, the model 4115z dual core 4:1 current balun should be used.
Design Features:
- Special mix toroid with low permeability. Toroid is also coated with epoxy paint for extra durablity.
- Design has excellent broadband frequency response and is very efficient (99%).
- Windings of bifilar thermaleze wire inserted in teflon tubing resulting in an effective breakdown voltage of over 10k.
- Insertion loss is < 0.2db
- SO-239 connectors are silver plated with teflon insulation and gold center conductor.
- All hardware is Stainless Steel. Eyebolts and studs are 1/4"
- Alternative RF connectors and mounting options are available in the Accessories section.
- The balun is installed in a weatherproof 4" X 4" X 2" NEMA Box that are excellent for outdoor and/or remote installations.
This balun will handle continuous power and tolerate high SWR for extended periods.
It will not heat up at rated power, using extended duty cycles or stressing load conditions.
