For those of you who own one of the fine tuners manufactured by Drake, this is a balun that can be easily installed on your existing PC board in place of the original windings. If you do not currently own a B-1000 balun, you can elect to mount this balun in perf board and running leads to the mounting studs.  Not only do you receive a balun capable of much more power, you also benefit from the enhanced performance this custom winding provides.

The balun comes completely wound with tinned leads and ready to be soldered to the connection pads of your PC board. Only a screwdriver and 100 watt soldering iron are required for installation. If you prefer not to do the installation, Balun Designs can install the uprade for $5.00 additional. Please call to make arrangements.

Installation Notes for Drake Upgrade Balun



  Core Material   Custom mix low permeability ferrite by Fair Rite Products for maximum bandwidth.
   Large 2.4 inch cores are coated and sealed for long term durability.
  Winding Type   Stacked cores with single bifilar pair configured as 4:1 tuner balun.
  Connections configured for external PC board utilized by Drake tuners.
  Winding Material   1 bifilar winding of 14 gauge Heavy build polyamideimide Allex 240 Winding Wire
  Windings are inserted into Teflon tubes increasing total breakdown to 10,000 volts.  
  Power Rating   1 to 35 MHz - 5kW, 7kW intermittent.  35 to 54 MHz - 3kW.  
  All ratings based on resonant load. High SWR will reduce power handling ability.
